the free quartet is a gathering of 4 exceptional musicians from the international improvising scene. Initially brought together by trumpeter Pablo Gīw, they are connected by their individual virtuosity, the freedom to accept unexpected musical turns and developments, to dive into the depth of continuity. Drone, detail, noise, slowness, weirdness and beauty grow out of and into each other in this free quartets music.

Electric bassist Farida Amadou (Brussels) is touring constantly as a solo performer, creates noise bursts and piercing drones with her unique, percussive style. Cellist, improviser and composer Mariel Roberts (New York) is known for her experimental solo albums, as well as member of various New York bands and Argus string quartet. Laura Totenhagen (Cologne) researches deeply in the extremes of vocal expression and as a creative electronic fx improviser as well as conceptual solo performance. Pablo Gīw (Cologne) is recognised for his interdisciplinary work, combining the performative body as a trumpet player with influences of experimental music, contemporary dance, urban beat aesthetics and free improvisation.
